Shah Rukh Khan security upgraded to Y+ category amid death threats

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was provided with a special Y+ security cover by the Maharashtra government following serious death threats he received from fringe elements after his film Pathaan’s massive success across India.

The Maharashtra government has granted Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan Y+ security, following death threats he received after the success of his recent films ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’.

What is Y+ Security?

The Y+ security cover, which is provided to prominent individuals facing serious security threats, will include 6 police personnel – 2 commandos and 4 armed guards. The security personnel will provide proximate security to Khan whenever he is in Maharashtra.

List of Bollywood Celebrities Getting Y+ Security

Though the security cover has been provided by the state government, Khan will bear the expenses as per procedure. Several other Bollywood celebrities like Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Kangana Ranaut have also been provided Y+ security in the past.

Why Shah Rukh Khan is getting Y+ Security

The threats to Khan are believed to be related to controversies around his film ‘Pathaan’. Complaints were filed against the film for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. However, it became a massive box office success, earning over ₹500 crore globally.

Security experts state that the threats are being taken seriously after the brutal murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. Maharashtra HM Dilip Walse Patil mentioned assessment reports by state and central agencies warranted the security upgrade for Khan.

Khan’s upcoming films like ‘Jawan’ and ‘Dunki’ have further contributed to his popularity, leading to more threats from anti-social elements.

The Y+ cover will provide Khan with a security blanket during his travels and public appearances across Maharashtra. However, he can refuse the security if he deems it unnecessary in the future.
